Breaking the barrier, Sanjana Singh becomes the first transgender to get Government Job in Madhya Pradesh

Sanjana, 36, was forced to leave her home at the age of 15 and forced to join Transgender society is now appointed as a personal secretary to the Director of the state’s Department of Social Justice & Disabled Welfare (DSJDW) on 1 March 2019.

Sanjana also abandoned by her own community as she is against the tradition of dancing and singing at the doors of the people on various ceremonies. She always wanted transgenders to live a normal life like other people in society. It was her childhood dream to create awareness among the transgenders and also to make them a part of mainstream society.

Sanjana came in limelight in 2015 when she was campaigning against open defecation in Madhya Pradesh government initiative of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and played an important role in swatch mission. On her contribution to society, she has felicitated with an award
by actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Sanjana, before posted as the Director of DSJDW, had become the first Para-legal volunteer of District Legal Services Tribunal and was also a nominated member of the Lok Adalat of the tribunal.  In 2008 she worked with an NGO dedicated to child and women health.
Sanjana’s great efforts led her to this respectable job; this happened for the first time in Madhya Pradesh that a transgender is having a government job. She is now focused to bring other community members forward to contribute to society.

“If the society does not accept us, we will not be able to break our barriers. This is a small change and in future, there will be stupendous changes” she said on asking for reservation for the transgender community in government jobs.
